The European Union´s development aid in 2020 is approximately € 67 billion

The value of development aid provided by the European Union and its 27 countries last year rose to 66.8 billion euros, the European Commission said on Wednesday.

The Commission stated that development aid in 2020 increased by 15% compared to 2019.

Germany alone provided more than a third of this aid, amounting to about 24.9 billion euros.

The development aid provided by the European Union has yet to be increased in order to maintain commitment to the United Nations goal of making expenditures on this aid reach at least 0.7% of GDP by 2030, and the proportion of the bloc's expenditures on this aid reached last year 0.5% of his GDP.

On the other hand, Germany exceeded this goal, as its expenditures in this area reached 0.73% for the first time in 2020, and Sweden, Luxembourg and Denmark exceeded the target percentage.

The Commission stated that it deducted Britain's contributions from the total development aid provided by the "Europe Team".

The United Kingdom left the bloc at the beginning of 2020, but it continued to pay in the joint budget during the transition period that followed the British exit, which ended at the end of last year.
