The Israeli Knesset approves a bill to legalize outposts

The General Assembly of the Israeli Knesset, this evening, Wednesday, approved the preliminary reading of the draft law on the legalization of outposts submitted by members of the Israel lobby in the Knesset, which is made up of members of different parties.

The bill was originally introduced by far-right MK Bezalel Smotrich, who called for action quickly to pass the bill with the three readings that would allow it to become effective.

The draft law aims to regulate and legalize about 70 settlement outposts scattered in the West Bank, and consider them as legitimate settlements.

Smotrich called during his speech, Benjamin Netanyahu to accelerate the steps of passing the law and not to allow Benny Gantz, his ally in the government, to prevent the passage of the law.

Likud, Shas, United Torah Judaism, and Yemina factions, and Yisrael Beiteinu, support the bill.

Meanwhile, Israeli Minister of Justice Avi Nissenkorn of the Blue and White party said the bill is illegal and will be opposed.
