Russia: The Middle East will not be stabilized without solving the Palestinian issue

The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that the Palestinian issue is no less urgent, in light of the two peace agreements concluded between Israel, the UAE and Bahrain, calling for intensifying efforts to resume dialogue between the two parties to the conflict.

In this regard, the Russian Foreign Ministry called on regional and international partners to "activate focused efforts in this important direction," expressing Moscow's readiness to participate in these efforts, especially within the framework of the international quartet recognized by the UN Security Council, and in close coordination with the League of Arab States.

In a statement issued today, Thursday, the Russian Foreign Ministry indicated that Russia, as a permanent member of the Security Council of States and a party to the international "Quartet," has always been and continues to proceed from the importance of reaching a comprehensive settlement of the conflict in the Middle East, but with the awareness that it must be an integral part. From this settlement, a just and sustainable solution to the Palestinian issue based on the international legal basis agreed upon internationally, including the Arab Peace Initiative and the principle of the two-state solution.

And she continued, "We proceed from the statements of the leaders of Bahrain and the UAE regarding the full commitment of the two countries to settling the Palestinian issue based on the aforementioned international legal basis and in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative approved by the leaders of Arab countries in 2002."

The Russian Foreign Ministry stressed the need to focus the main efforts in the current stage on the resumption of direct negotiations, without putting forward preconditions, between the Israelis and the Palestinians, pointing out that the evidence of history confirms that sustainable solutions to the conflict can only be reached on the basis of a negotiating base acceptable to all parties involved in it.

The statement stated: "Given the progress that has been made in the process of normalizing relations between Israel and a number of Arab countries, we confirm that the Palestinian issue has not been less urgent, and it would be a mistake to believe that steady stability can be established in the Middle East without resolving it."
