Filipino boxing champion launches his cryptocurrency

Philippine boxing champion Manny Pacquiao announced on Sunday the launch of his own digital currency at a free concert in Manila, where more than 2,000 of his fans played and sang to attract interest in the currency.

Pacquiao, 40, entered history as the world's largest weight champion (Welter), beating in July last year the American World Boxing Association champion (Keith Thurman) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Pacquiao, who is also a Philippine senator, is hoping to take advantage of his cryptocurrency, Pac, which will allow fans to buy his goods and interact with him on social media.

Pak will be listed on the Singapore Exchange Global Exchange (GCOX). Pacquiao, the former Liverpool player and England's Michael Owen, will be private investors, along with Sheikh Khalid bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Buck is the world's first cryptocurrency to follow a celebrity. Danish tennis player Caroline Wozniacki, Owen and singer Jason Derolo plan to launch their own cryptocurrencies with the Global Exchange Exchange (GCOX).

"We are not here to raise a lot of money, but to build an ecosystem," GCOX founder and chief executive Jeffrey Lane told Reuters.
