Lotus unveils new EVEGA electric car

British automaker Lotus has unveiled its new super-electric EVEGA, the company said on Tuesday.

The 1972 Honda sports car will be the first car to be developed under the Lotus Group, the Zhejiang Geely Holding Group of billionaire Li Xu Fu, which also controls the Volvo Car Group, the Bloomberg news agency said. Which will serve as a halo for the rest of the Lotus models, which also include "Elise", "Exige" and "Evora"

Geely noted the Lotus Eviga in April at the Shanghai Motor Show as a "declaration of intent" for the company over the next decade.

"Electric cars are part of the future strategy," said Phil Bovam, then chief executive of the company.

"For Lotus, it was always important to have leadership and electricity experience that would drive the value of every car we make."

This is the first car manufactured by the British company in 11 years.
