Human Rights Center says violations against journalists are intentional

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) on Wednesday issued a new report in the "Silence Press" series, which highlights the attacks and crimes of the occupation forces against journalists and workers in local and international news agencies in the Occupied Palestinian territory.

The report confirmed, in a copy, that most of the attacks carried out by the occupying forces against journalists and workers in local and international news agencies were deliberately and intentally made, especially as these journalists were wearing what differentiates them as press crews while doing their job.

The statement read as follows:

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) on Wednesday issued a new report in the "Silence Press" series, which highlights the attacks and crimes of the occupation forces against journalists and workers in local and international news agencies in the Occupied Palestinian territory.

The twenty-first report, covering the period from May 1, 2018 to April 30, 2019, increases the level of violations against journalists in the occupied Palestinian Territory, compared to the scale of violations committed last year. The center documented a total of 207 violations, in contrast to 149 violations, which were included in the previous report.

The violations documented by the current general position included crimes of shooting and harming journalists; beats, insults and bans on filming and coverage of juveniles; detention, arrest and trial against the backdrop of journalistic and media work; raid, destruction, closure and prohibition of institutions Media and cultural action to incite the occupying forces; to deport journalists and human rights activists for alleged incitement to terrorism; and to prevent the printing of newspapers.

In particular, the report highlights the targeting by the Israeli occupying forces of journalists covering peaceful demonstrations along the eastern and northern borders of the Gaza Strip, as part of the "return and breaking the siege" events that took place from March 30, 2018, where the center documented (106) injuries in the ranks Journalists, including injuries in the event of danger, some of them amputated members of his body.

The report also highlights the targeting and complete destruction of the Al-Aqsa Space building and the cultural center of Gaza City by the occupying forces. Furthermore, the center documented further attacks against journalists in the West Bank, with a view to preventing the media from covering and dissolving crimes committed by the Israeli occupying forces against civilians in the occupied Palestinian territory.

These attacks took place in the context of the professional work of journalists by covering events on the ground and transferring them to the world.

These violations including violations against the personal safety of journalists, including beatingings, payment and harassment, firing of tear gas canisters at them, shooting at them and wounding of journalists; preventing the filming and coverage of events by reporters; raiding and inspecting concessions and media institutions; , Closed, or banned; raids on the homes of journalists; deportation of media workers and human rights activists; and prohibition of printing newspapers.

The report confirmed that most of the attacks carried out by the occupying forces against journalists and workers in local and international news agencies came very carefully and unintentionally, especially as these journalists were what defines them as press crews while doing their job.

These practices are an extension of the grave violations that the occupying forces continue to commit against Palestinian civilians and a manifestation of Israel's disregard for international humanitarian law, in particular Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions.
