Zelensky sets conditions for a peace agreement with Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reiterated his refusal to cede any region to Russia, and announced some conditions in any peace agreement with Moscow.

"The goal of every Ukrainian is to restore territorial integrity within international borders. We will not enter a frozen conflict," Zelensky said during an event hosted by The Wall Street Journal, according to a statement.

He added that Russian forces would have to withdraw and Russian President Vladimir Putin would have to agree to a ceasefire "publicly, if possible."

He explained that this was a prerequisite for concluding a peace agreement, but he admitted that Ukraine's restoration of its territorial integrity would be "difficult", especially with regard to Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014.

It is noteworthy that Russia announced that its demands for a cease-fire guarantee Ukraine's neutrality and non-joining of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and recognition of the annexation of Crimea to Moscow and the declared republics of Luhansk and Donetsk.
