Today, Wednesday, March 30, the Palestinians commemorate the 46th anniversary of Eternal Land Day, amid an escalation in the occupied Negev and tensions with the Israeli occupation following the killing of 11 Israelis in three operations in Beersheba, Hadera and Bnei Brak in about a week.
The events of Eternal Land Day, according to the Palestinian National Information Center - Wafa, date back to 1976, when the first direct confrontation took place between Palestinian citizens on the one hand and the Israeli establishment since 1948 on the other, and the result was the death of six martyrs and the wounding of 49 Palestinians and about 300 detainees, and the martyrs are :
According to the center, the beginning of the events dates back to the announcement by the Israeli government headed by Yitzhak Rabin in 1975 of a plan to Judaize the Galilee region; With the aim of building Jewish residential communities on land owned by Palestinian Arab citizens who represent the majority in this area, under the name (Galilee Development Project).
In this context, the Center stated that the Israeli government approved on February 29, 1976 the confiscation of 21,000 dunams belonging to Palestinian farmers from the towns of Sakhnin, Arraba, Deir Hanna, and Arab al-Sawa’id; To allocate it to build more settlements, bearing in mind that the Israeli authorities confiscated during the years between 1948 and 1972 more than one million dunams of the lands of Arab villages in the Galilee and the Triangle, in addition to the other millions of dunams they seized in 1948.
Following the confiscation decision, the Land Defense Committee, which emerged from local committees, met in the framework of a general meeting held in the city of Nazareth on October 18, 1975; To discuss the latest developments and ways to address the confiscation process, they agreed to declare a general and comprehensive strike for one day on March 30, 1976.
On March 29, 1976, the Israeli authorities quickly announced a curfew on the villages of Sakhnin, Arraba, Deir Hanna, Tur'an, Tamra and Kabul - from five in the evening. The Israeli government declared all the demonstrations illegal and threatened to shoot the “instigators” in order to prevent the strike from being carried out.
The center stated that despite the Israeli threats, the strike spread to all Palestinian communities from the Galilee in the north to the Negev in the south, and massive rallies denouncing and rejecting the decision to confiscate the land. The Palestinian Arabs started shooting randomly, bringing six martyrs, four of whom were killed by the army's bullets and two by the police, and dozens were wounded.
On the anniversary of Land Day, Hamas affirmed its adherence to the historical land of Palestine from its sea to its river and its legitimate right to defend the land and holy sites, respond to aggression, protect the Palestinian people, and continue the comprehensive resistance as a strategic choice to deter the occupation and extract full national rights.
Hamas said in a statement, “Al-Quds and the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque are the focus of the conflict with the Zionist enemy, and we will not allow the continuation of its aggression and the escalation of terrorism against them,” warning against desecrating it and allowing settlers to make provocative incursions and assault on those stationed in the mosque, adding, “Our people will not stand idly by in front of these And he will confront them with all his might and protect his sanctities by all means.”
She added, "The crimes of the occupation against our land, our people and our holy sites, through settlement, Judaization, killing and displacement, will not succeed in changing the facts of history, and will not give it the right to exist or alleged security on an inch of it. “.
Hamas renewed its rejection of all “projects of compromising our legitimate rights, foremost of which is the right of return of refugees,” calling on the Arab and Islamic nation to protect Palestinian refugees inside and in the diaspora and provide them with a decent life, because they reject the alternative homeland and look forward to returning to their homes from which they were forcibly displaced due to the crimes and massacres of the occupation. .
She affirmed her firm position that “the prisoners are at the forefront of our resistance Palestinian people, who sacrifice their lives and lives in order to defend their land while they continue their battle against the Zionist jailer,” pledging once again that their liberation is a top priority, calling for continued support and solidarity with them until freedom is snatched.
She said, “The Great March of Return, launched from the glorified Gaza and all our occupied lands on the anniversary of Land Day since 2018, and the battle of Sif al-Quds last year, blessed stations in the history of our struggle, embodied the unity of our people in the battle of liberation and return, dropped projects to liquidate the issue, and changed the conflict equation. With the enemy, the blood of the martyrs, the sacrifices of our people, and the valor of the resistance have marked a new era, whose title is that what is before this battle will not be the same as it will be after it.”
She added, "The liberation of the land of Palestine, ending the occupation and establishing a fully sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, does not only concern the Palestinian people, but it is a historical responsibility that falls on the shoulders of the Arab and Islamic nation and the free people of the world, and it is an issue that the nation must meet today before ever, in light of the escalation of crimes The occupation and attempts to penetrate its security and stability through the path of normalization with the enemy, and projects to liquidate the Palestinian cause.”
