Russia partially restricts access to Facebook in the midst of the Ukraine conflict

In response to Facebook's disabling of the pages of some Russian state media on the site, Russia intends to partially restrict the use of Facebook, in a move that is scheduled to take effect as of today, Friday, According to the Russian media regulator, Roskomnadzor.

The decision was made by the attorney general's office after consultations with the State Department, although it was not immediately clear how much service would be restricted.

As of Friday evening, users in Russia can still access the site's program through their smartphones.

The Russian authorities accuse the company, Meta, which owns Facebook, of violating “basic freedoms and human rights as well as the rights and freedoms of Russian citizens,” by disrupting some Russian media pages on Facebook, including the page of the Russian state agency, RIA Novosti, and the Zvezda TV channel.
