The President receives the Speaker of the US House of Representatives

The President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, received this evening, Thursday, at the presidential headquarters in the city of Ramallah, the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, and the accompanying delegation, which included a number of members of the US House of Representatives.

His Excellency stressed the importance of continuing to work on strengthening bilateral relations with the United States of America, and overcoming the obstacles that stand in the way of these relations.

His Excellency briefed Mrs. Pelosi and the members of Congress accompanying her on the latest developments in the Palestinian territories, stressing the need to end the Israeli occupation of the land of the State of Palestine, stop settlement activities, attacks and terrorize settlers, respect the historical situation in the Haram al-Sharif, and stop the expulsion of Palestinians from the neighborhoods of Jerusalem. Stop withholding taxes and stifle the Palestinian economy.

The President stressed the need to stop unilateral Israeli practices that undermine the two-state solution, in order to implement the agreements signed between the two sides, and to start a real political process in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, and there must be a political horizon, stressing the rejection of the occupation.

In turn, the Speaker of the US House of Representatives affirmed her commitment to making peace on the basis of the two-state solution, and the need for all parties to cooperate jointly to move forward in achieving security, stability and peace in the region.

The meeting was attended by: members of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Hussein Al-Sheikh and Ziad Abu Amr, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Information Nabil Abu Rudeineh, and diplomatic advisor to the President, Majdi Al-Khalidi.
