WHO: It is wrong to assume that Omicron is the last mutant

The Director of the World Health Organization said today, Monday, that the critical stage of the Corona pandemic could end this year if countries used all the tools available to them to achieve this, and at the same time warned against assuming that the mutant Omicron is the last mutant.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said at a meeting of the organization's executive committee that the goal of crossing the critical stage can be achieved if the vaccine gap is bridged in the poorest countries and more tests are conducted.

He added, "If countries use all strategies and tools in a comprehensive manner, we will be able to end the critical phase of the pandemic this year."

He added, to health ministers and officials from 34 countries, that the problem of the shortage of vaccines has been overcome, and the logistical challenge now remains to send them to all countries.

He said that the outbreak of the Omicron mutant caused the organization to receive reports of 100 new infections every three seconds from around the world over the past week, and a death every 12 seconds.

"It is dangerous to assume that Omicron is the last mutant, and that we are in the final stage," he stressed.
He revealed that 85% of people in Africa did not receive even a single dose of vaccines.
