Mexico records the second murder of a media man in 2022

A Mexican photojournalist was killed in the second assassination targeting media professionals in the country this year.
Margarito Martinez was shot and killed as he left his home on Monday, his wife and media reports said.
Martinez, 49, was covering criminal incidents and worked for local and international media in the northwestern city of Tijuana, on the border with the United States.
It is noteworthy that there are criminal gangs active in Tijuana, carrying out kidnappings, drug smuggling and immigrants to America.
The circumstances of the killing were not initially clear, but some of Martinez's colleagues said he was at odds with someone who appeared to be involved in the illegal drug trade.
Meanwhile, one of the media where Martinez worked reported that he had a quarrel with one of his neighbours.
Martinez's death comes one week after the killing of Jose Luis Gamboa, the director of an online news portal, in the eastern city of Veracruz.
Reporters Without Borders ranked Mexico at the forefront of the most dangerous countries for journalists in 2021, for the third year in a row.
The organization's annual report stated that at least seven journalists died because of their work in the North American country last year. Afghanistan came in second place with six journalists killed.
