Washington sends two envoys to Sudan to urge the authorities to "end violence" against protesters

The US State Department announced Monday that two US envoys are on their way to Khartoum to demand that the authorities "put an end to the violence" against protesters.
"We are concerned by reports of an escalation of violence against protesters in Sudan," ministry spokesman Ned Price said on Twitter, after seven anti-coup protesters were killed Monday in protests against the military authority.
Price added that Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Molly V and the new US envoy for the Horn of Africa, David Satterfield, "are on their way to Khartoum and will renew our call for security forces to end violence and respect freedom of expression and peaceful assembly."
A total of 71 protesters have been killed since the October 25 coup.
