Boris Johnson and wife Carrie announce the birth of a daughter

Boris Johnson and his wife announced Thursday the birth of a baby girl during a particularly stormy political week for the British prime minister.
"The Prime Minister and Mrs Johnson are pleased to announce the birth of a healthy baby girl at a London hospital earlier today," a spokeswoman for the couple said.
"The mother and baby are doing well," she added, and "the couple would like to thank the maternity team for all their efforts and support."
And Carrie Symonds, 33, Johnson's wife, is the mother of another child from the British prime minister, who was born in April 2020, and is named Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas Johnson.
Born on Thursday, she is the seventh child of Boris Johnson, 57, who has four children with his first wife, while his fifth daughter was the fruit of another relationship.
Johnson's spokesman indicated that the British prime minister would "take time with his family" to receive the girl, but would continue to run government business given "a particularly difficult period for the country".
He added, "It is obvious that he has to find a balance" between his personal life "and his responsibilities as prime minister and leader."
After being ridiculed by the press and vilified within his own party, Johnson's credibility was called into question Thursday by imposing new anti-Omicron health restrictions as his government faces criticism for its violations of anti-Covid-19 rules.
More and more news has been reported for days about celebrations that may have occurred in November and December 2020 in Downing Street while the British were forbidden to visit their relatives or celebrate Christmas.
