Biden, the oldest president of the United States, celebrates his 79th birthday

Joe Biden, the oldest US president in office, celebrated his 79th birthday Saturday with his family, a day after he underwent a medical examination that he considered "capable" of leading the United States.

The Democratic president is spending his birthday weekend in Wilmington, 170 kilometers from Washington, DC. His agenda did not provide for a public event.

On Twitter, former President Barack Obama, Biden's running mate for eight years, said, "Happy birthday to my friend, to my brother."

"America is grateful for your compassion, your grace, your love of the nation, your leadership and your ambition," said House Democratic Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who is two years his senior.

On the eve of his birthday, Biden conducted a health examination, which he considered "capable" of carrying out his presidential duties, according to his doctor.

The examination included a colonoscopy under sedation, during which he briefly transferred his powers to his deputy, Kamala Harris, who became the first woman to hold presidential powers in US history.

Joe Biden announced that he intends to run for a second term in 2024.

But some supporters of former President Donald Trump, who is also in his 70s, don't miss an opportunity to question Biden's physical and mental health, openly or implicitly.
