Russia: Israeli settlements in Jerusalem and the West Bank are illegal

The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed today, Thursday, that the Israeli settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, are illegal, considering these measures an annexation process.

Twelve European countries have called on Israel to immediately reverse its decision to proceed with plans to build 3,000 new settlement units in the West Bank.

These countries said in a joint statement to spokespersons for the foreign ministries: Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain and Sweden, that they “oppose settlement expansion in the occupied Palestinian territories.”

Britain also called on the Israeli occupation government to reverse its decisions regarding the construction of thousands of settlement units in the West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem.

In a statement today, Thursday, Middle East and North Africa Minister James Cleverly said that the settlements are illegal under international law and represent an obstacle to peace and stability.
