International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian Journalist

today, Sunday, marks the 25th anniversary of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian Journalist, which falls on September 26 of each year.

The International Federation of Journalists had announced this day following the events of the tunnel donation in 1996, during which dozens of Palestinian journalists were injured while transmitting images of Israeli violations of human rights and the rules of international humanitarian law in their dealings with citizens in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The International Federation called on the world's journalists to strengthen their solidarity with Palestinian journalists in the face of the grave and systematic Israeli violations.

This day comes at a time when the violations of the Israeli occupation forces and its settlers against journalists, who have nothing but their pens and lenses, continue, in blatant defiance of all international conventions and treaties.

It is noteworthy that the occupation has committed more than 652 violations against media professionals in the occupied Palestinian territories, since the beginning of 2021, using all kinds of killing, sniping with bullets, brutal arrest, assault and prosecution.

The latest Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip last May resulted in the death of a journalist and the destruction of more than 59 media institutions.

Twenty-four Palestinian journalists are imprisoned by the occupation, which has renewed the arrest of some of them several times.

Israel detains about 4,850 Palestinian citizens in 23 prisons and detention centers, including 41 female prisoners, 225 children, and 520 administrative detainees (without charge), according to institutions specialized in prisoners' affairs.
