A medical team extracts a phone from a prisoner´s stomach in Kosovo

A doctor in Kosovo revealed that he had extracted a mobile phone from the stomach of a prisoner, who underwent an operation at a clinic in Pristina.

The patient, who has not been identified, had been complaining for days of stomach pain. Last week, he was transferred to the department of gastroenterology at the University Clinical Center in the capital. Doctors discovered a Nokia phone in his stomach.

"The 33-year-old prisoner had swallowed a Nokia phone, we managed to extract it, without incision in the stomach, based on the endoscopy that allowed the phone to be divided into three parts," Iskandar Tilaku, the doctor in charge of the medical staff who performed the operation, told Al-Monitor.archives

The patient told the doctors that the phone had been in his stomach for four days. The process of extracting it took more than two hours and took place “without any major problems,” Doctor Tilako said.

After the operation was over, the police took the patient to prison. It is not yet known how the phone reached the prisoner's stomach, but the medical staff is likely to have the purpose of communicating with the outside world. The police made no comment on the incident.
