Presidency on the 52nd anniversary of al-Aqsa burning: Al-Aqsa is still targeted and we will continue to defend it until its liberation and the establishment of the State of Palestine

Today, Saturday, the Palestinian presidency renewed its demand for the international community to provide protection for religious and holy sites in the occupied city of Jerusalem.

The presidency said, in a press statement, on the 52nd anniversary of the burning of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, that Al-Aqsa and all holy places in occupied Jerusalem are still targeted by the Israeli occupation and settlers, as the incursions continue on a daily basis.

She added that Israel, despite all the resolutions of international legitimacy regarding the occupied city of Jerusalem, which demanded it not to prejudice the sanctity of religious places, in particular Al-Aqsa Mosque, as a holy Islamic site dedicated to worship, yet it still ignores those decisions, and turns its back on all the dangers that can to erupt as a result of its reckless and irresponsible policies.

The presidency stressed that Jerusalem is a red line, and we will not accept harm to it, and the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque is the first of the two Qiblas and the third of the Two Holy Mosques, and we will not deviate from it.

It called on Israel to cancel all measures that would change the status of Jerusalem, and to abide by Security Council Resolution No. 2334 of 2016, which explicitly affirmed the illegality of settlement in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem, and not to recognize any changes made by Israel to the borders of the Fourth of July. June 1967, also calling on the international community to protect the resolutions of international legitimacy, including UN Security Council Resolution No. 271 of 1969, in which it condemned Israel on the occasion of the burning of Al-Aqsa Mosque, and considered any destruction or desecration of the holy sites in Jerusalem, which could threaten international peace and security.

Today, August 21, coincides with the 48th anniversary of the burning of Al-Aqsa Mosque by the Jewish extremist Dennis Michael, which comes in light of the continuation of the daily Israeli attacks and violations against Al-Aqsa and its desecration, by sponsoring the settlers’ visits and holding their provocative Talmudic prayers.
