Paris Hilton invites victims of childhood sexual abuse to talk about their traumatic experiences to educate others

Paris Hilton has urged survivors of abuse as a child to share their experiences to prevent it from happening to others.

In February, the US television and community star told Utah lawmakers that she was "verbal and physical assault on a daily basis" while at a boarding school in the state, BA Media reported.

Hilton campaigned for tighter regulations in education institutions. "It is very important to use your voice," Hilton said in a speech at an event called "One World for Youth" today, Saturday.

She added: "For me, it was so shocking that I didn't talk about it for 20 years, because what I went through was so horrible that I didn't even want to believe it was real."

Speaking openly, Hilton said, was "one of the most empowering moments of my life".

She added that she was "so proud that I told my story, used my voice and really turned my pain into a target... I had no idea that one day I would literally change the laws that would affect so many children."

"This is just the beginning," she said. "We've done it in Utah so far, and now I want to take this to the federal level so that no child will ever have to repeat this."
