Google celebrates Palestinian artist Maliha Afnan, Who is she?

The global search engine “Google” brought to mind the biography of the Palestinian artist Maliha Afnan, who is considered one of the most important artists of the Middle East in the twentieth century.

Who is Maliha Afnan?

Maliha Afnan was born in the Palestinian city of Haifa, then moved to Beirut with her family in 1949, where she received a Bachelor of Arts from the American University of Beirut, and a Master of Arts in Fine Arts from Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, DC. Afnan lived in Kuwait from 1963 until 1966, then moved to Beirut from 1966 to 1974, and in Paris from 1974 to 1997, when she moved to London.

Afnan’s artworks appeared mainly in France and London. Her first solo exhibition was at the Basel Gallery in 1971, organized by the American artist Mark Tobey. Some of her works are in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the British Museum in London and within the written art collection in Germany and at the Arab World Institute in Paris and the BAII Bank Group in Paris.

Maliha Afnan died in London on January 6, 2016 at the age of 80, and her memory is still present, inspiring art and artists.
