Borel threatens to impose more European sanctions on Turkey

The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Josep Borrell indicated the possibility of stricter European sanctions on Turkey because of its activities in the eastern Mediterranean, saying that the leaders of the bloc will take up the matter in a meeting on 10 days. And December 11th, Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday.

Borrell told the European Parliament today in Brussels: "Certainly we are at a critical moment regarding our relationship with Turkey. The leaders will have to make a decision" on whether to impose more sanctions. "

In February, the European Union imposed an asset freeze and travel ban for two employees of the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO), in reaction to Turkey's drilling for natural gas off Cyprus.

A Cypriot proposal to include Turkish entities and add individuals to that blacklist has been suspended since June amid hesitation from European Union countries, including Germany.
