Mladenov: situation in Gaza is getting worse

The United Nations Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nikolai Mladenov on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, unveiled un efforts to create conditions for the resumption of negotiations between The Palestinians and Israelis.

Speaking at a UN Security Council session on the Palestinian issue, Mladenov added that the United Nations for the peace process has recorded a high rate of demolition of Palestinian homes in the West Bank and Jerusalem by Israel.

On the situation in Gaza, he pointed out that the situation in the Gaza Strip is worsening with the continuation of the Israeli blockade and the repercussions of the Coronavirus, where it added new concerns about patients outside Gaza, pointing out that the coronavirus crisis has negative repercussions on the provision of assistance as a result of the closure of the crossings several months ago.

Regarding Corona's impact on the economic crisis in Palestine, Mladenov noted that it was unclear whether the Palestinian government would have sufficient resources to pay wages in the coming months.

"The Palestinian forces have been transferred without the ability of the Palestinian forces to move in the West Bank... "Daily violence continues in the West Bank, where a Palestinian was killed and 65 others injured during Israeli attacks."

"Gaza and the West Bank organized peaceful protests against the expansion of the West Bank, which led to the use of tear gas canisters by the Israeli occupation forces in the West Bank, and many injuries during those demonstrations, which were documented by several official videos," Mladenov said.

He also reviewed several violations against Palestinians, noting that according to recent information from the Israeli authorities, it was clear that on May 31, several Palestinians were arrested and the number of detainees rose to 242.

In response to the Corona pandemic, Mladenov called for the release of Palestinian detainees from Israeli prisons.
