Huawei is building a center of optoelectronics research in the United Kingdom

Chinese technology company (Huawei) announced that it intends to build an advanced center in Cambridge, Britain, that will focus on research and development in the field of optoelectronics and its manufacture.

Huawei added that in 2018 it acquired a plot of land with an area of ​​about 2.02 square kilometers in Cambridge, noting that the local council approved today the first phase of the "Huawei complex."

The company indicated that it will invest one billion pounds (about 1.2 billion US dollars) in the first phase of the project, which includes building facilities on 50 thousand square meters, and directly creates about 400 jobs for the local population.

Huawei says that optoelectronics is a major technology used in modern fiber-optic communication systems, and that this investment aims to own data centers and network infrastructure around the world the best of this technology.

Victor Chang, Vice President of Huawei, said, "This is the ideal location for this integrated innovation complex. Through close cooperation with research institutes, universities and the local industry, we want to develop optical communications technology for the entire industry, in conjunction with playing our part in supporting the wider UK industrial strategy."
