Cultural festival in Texas, USA canceled due to Corona

The South Bay Southwestern cultural festival that was scheduled to start in mid-March in Austin, Texas, was canceled due to concerns about the spread of the new Corona virus, according to what was announced. Mayor of the city Friday.

"I have issued an order to cancel the South Bay Southwest Festival this year," Austin Mayor Steve Adler said at a press conference.

To date, a few confirmed cases of the virus have been counted in Texas.

"We respect the decision of the city of Austin and we are committed to doing our part to help protect our employees, festival leaders and city residents," the festival organization said in a statement, noting that they are studying "options to reschedule the event."

The Music, Film and Technology Festival was scheduled to take place from 13 to 22 March. Netflix, Apple and Amazon have announced earlier that they will not participate in the festival this year.

The festival and related events last year attracted more than 400,000 people.

The mayor of Austin, meanwhile, declared a local emergency in the face of the emerging Corona virus, which has infected more than 200 people across the United States.

The officials of the electronic music festival, "Ultra Music Festival", announced on Friday that it was canceled due to the epidemic, after it was scheduled to be held in Miami between 20 and 22 March.

The organizers of the famous Coachella festival, which will start on April 10 in the California desert, have not answered AFP calls to inquire about any changes to the schedule.
