Boris Johnson and his girlfriend are waiting for the birth of a child and they will get married

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his girlfriend, Carrie Simmonds, announced on Saturday that they are expecting a baby and that they will marry.

"The Prime Minister and Miss Simmonds are pleased to announce their engagement and that they are waiting for the birth of a child at the beginning of the summer," their spokesman told Press Association. A Downing Street spokesman confirmed the news to AFP, without giving further details.

Boris Johnson, 55, separated from his wife in 2018 after 26 years of marriage, and began appearing openly with Carrie Simmonds, 31, in early 2019.

Johnson, who took office last summer and won a landslide election in December, will be the first prime minister to marry in office in 250 years.

Johnson and his girlfriend are also the first husband to live without marriage on Downing Street, the official residence of the Prime Minister in London.

Carrie Simmonds, a former Conservative communications advisor, has remained out of the media since moving to Downing Street.

She previously worked on the Boris Johnson re-election campaign for the London mayor in 2012.

Johnson has four children from his second wife, Marina Wheeler, and the British press reports that he has a fifth son from an illegal relationship.
