Lavrov: Russia and Turkey are preparing for consultations on Syrian Idlib

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday that his country and Turkey are planning a series of consultations on Syrian Idlib.

Lavrov said, during a press conference, that Moscow hopes that the two countries can ensure that Idlib becomes a real non-escalation zone free of militants.

Lavrov stressed that the non-escalation zone in Idlib is turning into an "escalation zone" with the militants there attacking targets outside the region.

Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan last Friday, the latest escalation of tensions in Idlib during a phone conversation.

The two countries confirmed that the two armies would maintain close communication.
