Italians feel happier and richer

A study published by the Italian National Statistical Agency (ESTAT) today, Thursday, showed that Italians are happier in their lives and feel higher economic security.

The estate agency said the proportion of people who are generally satisfied with their lives increased to 43.2 percent last year, "confirming a positive trend that started in 2016."

In the period 2013-2015 the percentage was about 35 percent.

The growth of the economy, Italy, a member of the European Union, has been slow for a long time, but improved slightly after emerging from a double recession in 2014.

For example, unemployment fell to less than ten percent this year for the first time since 2012. However, economic data turned negative in recent months, which raised fears of a new recession.

Stat Agency said that 74.1 percent of Italians reported stable or improved economic situation in 2019, compared to 41 percent in 2013. The agency added that satisfaction with life in 2019 was significantly higher among young people, more educated people and those living in the northern regions The richest in Italy.

The highest percentage of people happy with their lives - 62.2 percent - was partly located in the German-speaking region of Trentino-Alto Adige Adige and the lowest percentage was 31.3 percent - in Campania, in the south of the country that includes Naples.
