NATO suspends training of Iraqi forces amid fears of new violence in the region

NATO suspended today, Saturday, training Iraqi forces, amid fears that a new conflict could erupt in the region after a US airliner attack that killed a prominent Iranian general.

"The NATO mission is continuing, but training activities have now been suspended," NATO spokesman Dylan White said, adding that NATO is taking all precautions to protect its personnel.

It is noteworthy that the current NATO mission in Iraq began in 2018 with the aim of training the Iraqi armed forces and preventing ISIS from gathering strength.

Hundreds of individuals from NATO allies, as well as non-NATO countries, including Sweden and Finland, are participating in this mission.
