Former President Carter´s surgery "without complications"

Former US President Jimmy Carter is recovering in a hospital in Georgia after undergoing an operation on Tuesday to relieve pressure in his brain after falling several times in previous weeks, an aide said.

The Carter Center said in a statement that "there was no complication from the surgery", which was conducted to relieve the pressure caused by internal bleeding caused by falls.

The 95-year-old president was admitted to Emory University Hospital on Monday, before surgery, and "will remain in the hospital for observation for the period recommended by doctors," the center said.

Carter had previously been hospitalized for a pelvic fracture after falling in October.

Carter, who was president between 1977 and 1981, was also injured in a fall incident earlier in the month, but the next day volunteered to take part in an activity by Humanity Housing and appeared at the site identified with a black eye and a bandage on the head.
