US Intelligence: Protecting Elections is the Biggest Challenge

Acting Director of National Intelligence for Congress Joseph Joseph McGuire said that "perhaps the most important task" for his agency and intelligence services is to ensure the credibility and integrity of US elections.

"Nobody, none of us, is above the law in this country," Maguire told the House of Representatives Intelligence Committee, speaking in the context of laws that bar US citizens from seeking foreign help in elections.

"The big challenge we face is not necessarily to strike a blow against Russia, China, Iran or North Korea," Maguire said.

He stressed that he saw priority in "protecting the sanctity of elections" at the federal, state and local levels. He said that the "great competition" between the major powers is in the Internet world.
