Egypt and Sudan agreed on Wednesday to coordinate with the Red Sea in preparation for the Joint High Commission of the two countries.

"The two sides stressed the importance of their coordination on the Red Sea as a very important waterway, both in the meetings of the littoral States of the red Seas, and in the international community," said a statement of the 2018 project of the Egyptian-Sudanese Ministerial Committee preparatory to the Joint High Commission, to be held in Khartoum next October. In accordance with the statement, Egypt welcomed Sudan's efforts to achieve peace in southern Sudan, which resulted in a huge breakthrough on Aug. 5, with the signing of the power-sharing agreement by the Sudanese factions.

The statement said the two sides stressed the compatibility of their positions on regional and international issues of common concern.

The Egyptian-Sudanese relations witnessed an escalation of tension in the previous period, which resulted from the stalled negotiations on the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam project, which includes Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia, the presence of members of the banned Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt on Sudanese territory, and the dispute over Halaib region and the border Shalatin.

Tensions between the two countries began to recede after the Sudanese Foreign minister's visit to Cairo and a four-party meeting, which included the foreign ministers and the two heads of intelligence of both countries, resulted in the adoption of continuous mechanisms for dialogue and the resolution of outstanding issues between the two countries.
