The imprisonment of the Russian agent Maria Botina

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A US federal judge Friday sentenced 18-month-old Russian spy Maria Potina to 18 months in prison.

The judge said that the nine months that Bhutna had been in custody would have taken into account, meaning that she had spent half the time and had another nine months left.

She arrested the young Russian in 2018 and was charged with acting as "agent of an official in a foreign government" and "penetrating political organizations to promote the interests of the Russian Federation." It has also been accused of not officially disclosing that it is working for the Russian government as stipulated by law.

Botina admitted last December to the charges against her.

The name of the client was not mentioned in the report by investigator Robert Mueller on Russia's intervention in the 2016 US presidential election.

Putina studied at the American University in Washington and was a defender of the right to bear arms.
