Bennett accuses Lieberman of surrendering to Hamas

Israeli Education Minister Nevet Bennett on Sunday attacked army Minister Avigdor Lieberman against the backdrop of a truce agreement with Hamas in Gaza.

In an interview with the newspaper Yediot Aharonot, Bennett said his surrender would bring about a change in relations between coalition partners, accusing Lieberman of opting for a surrender that would eventually lead to war.

"His hesitation and understanding that his talks on Facebook with the people of Gaza will lead to the overthrow of Hamas and the security of the entire population of the Gaza Strip is pure nonsense and irresponsible," he said.

"The same Lieberman, who has declared that he will overthrow Hamas and now destroys Ismail Haniyeh, gives her prizes at the expense of the security of the State of Israel, that his lax policy of responsibility and pragmatism allows Hamas to burn the south for 140 days and dictate to the residents to go to the shelters," he said.

"Whoever surrenders to terrorism brings terror, and Lieberman today surrenders to Hamas, all he does is endanger the state of Israel and this will lead to an inevitable confrontation under conditions to be imposed by Hamas and in a timely manner," he continued.

Lieberman's office chose not to respond to Bennett's remarks to the newspaper, while a spokesman for Israel's Beit Lieberman party said the government's policy was determined by the Government itself and at least by those attending the meetings of the Ministers, in clear criticism of Bennett's absence from the last Kabonette session.

"Anyone willing to sacrifice the blood of our soldiers on the altar of political considerations does not deserve to deal with security issues, and it is better to devote its time to the opening of the school year," the spokesman added.
