The occupation approves the construction of 3,557 settlement units in Jerusalem

Today, Wednesday, the so-called Local Committee for Planning and Building of the Jerusalem Municipality, affiliated with the occupation, approved the construction of 3,557 settlement units within 5 new plans.

According to Peace Now, one of the construction plans relates to building new settlement units between Har Homa and Givat Hamatos, and another scheme on the edge of French Hill.

The organization considered that this news harms the city of Jerusalem and the chances of peace, and that the most harmful scheme in terms of the possibility of reaching a two-state solution is the plan known as the “Lower Canal Plan” south of Kibbutz Ramat Rachel, south of Jerusalem.

It indicated that 1,465 new settlement units will be built in a new neighborhood near Givat Hamatos and Har Homa, in order to connect them and cut off the connection between the Palestinian neighborhoods east of Jerusalem and Bethlehem, while another 2092 units will be built on the outskirts of the French Hill, most of which are outside the Green Line.

She explained that the local committee of the Jerusalem municipality does not have any authority to approve the plan, and the decision will be made by the district committee, noting that on the seventeenth of this month, plans for depositing with the Planning and Building Committee in Jerusalem will be discussed.
