For long days before the holy month of Ramadan, young women help many young men collect in-kind donations from well-off shopkeepers to make some different pastries, with the aim of distributing them to poor families who hardly have little to spare Suffering in light of the dire economic conditions in the Gaza Strip, and the high rates of food insecurity.
During the month of Ramadan, young women work at the headquarters of the "Hamm" association for hours in order to complete the manufacture of various baked goods in large quantities with the aim of distributing them a few hours before the time of Iftar, while the remaining quantities help young men in distributing them on the roads for those who are late returning to their homes.
Amani Qassem, one of the young women in charge of the initiative called "Bake for Gaza", says that large numbers of poor families benefit from this charitable initiative, noting that they collect in-kind donations such as flour, sugar, cheese, thyme and other materials that help in making these baked goods to provide them to needy families. .
The initiative targets during the current month of Ramadan mainly families that do not have a financial income and were relying on the disbursement of social affairs allocations to manage their lives during the holy month without spending them for months, despite promises that were issued by officials to spend them with the advent of Ramadan, but they were late and did not spend So far, as Qasim adds in her interview with "Al-Quds" dot-com.
In the Gaza Strip, there are about 80 thousand families subsisting on social affairs allocations. They live in very difficult living conditions and extreme poverty. They do not have the slightest basic needs and cannot provide them since the beginning of the month of Ramadan, as mentioned by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights in a report a few days ago. .
“We are striving to help these families, even we are trying to help them by providing in-kind needs,” says Qassem, noting that despite the difficult financial situation in Gaza, even for the merchants themselves, donations have not stopped.
Qasim pointed out that some of the participants in the current charitable initiative are from the category of hearing impairment, noting that dealing with them is very easy and they have great intelligence, and they succeed in performing the tasks assigned to them by making the various pastries that we need to distribute to the poor and needy.
"Integrating young women with hearing disabilities with others who do not have disabilities to have a role in the youth initiative, as part of society, and to be active in it.
She noted that the number of participants in the last years of Ramadan was 50 young and young volunteers, but because of the COV crisis it became 28, to prevent assembly and the introduction of preventive preventive measures.
