The ruling coalition parties in Israel support Netanyahu despite accusations

Israeli parties to the governing coalition and several right-wing parties have expressed their support for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu despite the Israeli attorney general´s claim that he intends to indict him.

"As we said from the beginning, the assumption of the innocence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is the same as any other citizen," the Israeli right-wing party said late on Thursday.

Shas, Yahdut Hatorah, hardliners, former army minister Avigdor Lieberman and right-wing leader Yisrael Beiteinu expressed their support for Netanyahu.

Israeli Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit announced on Thursday that he intended to charge corruption against Netanyahu. It includes accusations of bribery, fraud and breach of trust.

Netanyahu condemned the timing of Mandelblit´s statement, which comes more than a month before the general elections, as an attempt to influence the results and said he planned to stay prime minister "for many years to come."

Polls conducted prior to the prosecutor´s announcement showed that the bloc of far-right parties and religious parties enjoyed popular support.
