Official and popular Palestinian movements reject Washington´s declaration on settlements

Palestinians on Sunday began preparing for popular movements in the West Bank and a "day of rage" at Israeli seam zones and military roadblocks in rejection of recent Israeli actions and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo´s announcement on settlements.

Palestinian officials announced that the popular demonstrations will coincide with other official and unofficial events will continue over the coming days to reject the US and Israeli decisions against the Palestinian cause.

Issam Baker, the coordinator of Islamic and national forces in Ramallah, said meetings between the PLO factions and civil society organizations were held recently to formulate a unified public response to reject Washington´s decision on the Palestinian issue, most recently the Pompeo Declaration.

Baker said that the meetings led to consider the day after "Tuesday" a day of anger "Palestinian by organizing demonstrations towards Israeli checkpoints and seam areas in the cities of the West Bank.

Abbas Zaki, a member of the Central Committee of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (PLO), said that the popular movements come to put an end to "Israel´s practices of land grabbing, settlement construction, murder, settler attacks and violations of Palestinian rights."

Zaki said that the escalation of popular resistance is an uprising in the face of Israel and a message to it that it will no longer have absolute hand in the Palestinian territories.

He pointed out that the popular movements will coincide with a political move by the Palestinian leadership by going to the International Criminal Court, the United Nations and Arab and Islamic organizations to take practical deterrent positions to Israeli and American actions.

For his part, said the Vice-President of the Fatah movement Mahmoud Alul in a statement, "the US administration headed by Donald Trump and the Israeli government continue to violate the rights of Palestinians and commit crimes against them."

Al-Aloul stressed the Palestinian leadership´s refusal to continue the existing equation and the need to change the current situation to protect the Palestinian cause.

In a statement after a consultative meeting held in the city of Ramallah, the PLO Executive Committee called on the Palestinian masses to participate in the demonstrations rejecting the American and Israeli escalation.

The statement called for popular action in the coming period to reject the US administration´s policies aimed at eliminating the Palestinian people´s inalienable rights and establishing an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

He considered, the statement Pompeo "an attempt to destabilize security and stability in the region, which requires confronting this new aggression, which opens the appetite of the occupation to seize more land and construction and settlement expansion."

The statement called on the international community to develop practical mechanisms to address these policies.

About half a million Israelis live in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, while several UN resolutions, including one passed by the Security Council at the end of former US President Barack Obama´s term, have condemned the settlements.

Palestinians have been boycotting the current US administration since President Donald Trump announced the end of 2017 to recognize Jerusalem as Israel´s capital.
