Uber announced Tuesday a partnership with British start-up Arifle to manufacture an electric car for the US taxi giant that will help cut emissions.
The two companies indicated in a joint statement that production of the vehicle is expected to start in the third quarter of 2023, noting that they "will explore a strategic relationship in major markets including Britain and the European Union."
This comes after the "Arivel", which was launched six years ago and manufactures several electric vehicles, including vans and buses, entered the "NASDAQ" index on the Wall Street Stock Exchange in March.
"Aravel, the global technology company that develops electric cars that uses its revolutionary technologies, is partnering with Uber to develop an affordable electric vehicle" for drivers contracting with the service, the statement noted.
The two companies pointed out that the new car "will fulfill a global need to change taxi services and share vehicles ... to electric power to reduce emissions and improve air quality in cities."
Uber has pledged to fully rely on electric power in its vehicles by 2025 in London, and by 2030 in North America and the rest of Europe, according to the statement.
