US President Donald Trump said Boris Johnson would be an "excellent" choice to replace British Prime Minister Theresa May, days before he was on an official visit to London.
I know the different players, but I think Boris will do a very good job, I think it will be excellent, "he told the Sun newspaper in an interview published late on Friday.
"I do not know if he will be chosen, but I think he´s a very good man."
The US president also said other candidates in the race to succeed Mai, who will step down as Conservative leader on June 7 after failing to promote Britain´s exit from the EU through parliament, have also asked for his support.
"I do not want to say who asked, but other people (candidates) asked me to support them," he said.
"I think the UK has allowed the EU to have all the cards, and it is very difficult to play well when one party gets all the advantages," he said.
The US president made a similar controversial interview before his first official visit to Britain last year. He then said that Mai had ignored his advice on Britain´s exit negotiations with the EU and said once again that Johnson would be a "great prime minister."
