The UAE and Israel agree to establish bilateral committees for cooperation in the banking and financial sector

Abdul Hamid Muhammad Saeed Al-Ahmadi, Governor of the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates and Mr. Ronen Barts, Director General of the Israeli Prime Minister´s Office, signed a memorandum of understanding for future cooperation in the banking and financial sector, according to the Emirates News Agency. (WAM) Today, Tuesday.

The two sides agreed during their meeting, today, Tuesday, in Abu Dhabi to form working groups and bilateral committees to facilitate banking between the UAE and Israel, in the presence of Meir Ben Shabat, advisor and head of the Israeli National Security Council.

Yesterday, Monday, the UAE, the United States of America and Israel issued a joint tripartite statement in light of the visit of the joint US-Israeli delegation headed by Jared Kushner, senior adviser to US President Donald Trump, to the country today.

The delegation included Robert O´Brien, US National Security Adviser, Meir Ben Shabat, Adviser and Chairman of the Israeli National Security Council, as well as a number of representatives of various sectors in the State of Israel.

The joint statement stated that "the peace treaty reached between the UAE and the State of Israel under American auspices on August 13, 2020 represents a bold step towards a more stable, integrated and prosperous Middle East region."

The peace treaty provides new thinking on how to address the region’s problems and challenges, with a focus on practical steps that have tangible results, as it carries with it the promise of building new bridges that work to de-escalate existing conflicts and prevent new conflicts from arising in the future.

The statement mentioned that this treaty comes at the right time .. Over the past decade, we have witnessed a remarkable increase in wars, destruction, displacement and an increasing demographic shift towards young people .. Therefore, if we want to meet the needs of current and future generations, we must respond effectively to all these changes.

On Saturday, 8-29-2020, the UAE formally abolished the boycott law that was issued 40 years ago, which allowed companies and individuals from the UAE to establish direct commercial relations with Israel.
