Washington imposes sanctions on the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court

The United States announced on Wednesday that it had imposed sanctions on the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Fatou Bensouda, in protest to the ongoing investigation into possible involvement of US soldiers in war crimes in Afghanistan.

"Every individual or entity that continues to provide financial assistance to the plaintiff also exposes itself to sanctions," US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a press conference, adding that this step was taken because the International Criminal Court "unfortunately continues to target Americans."
