The Journalists Syndicate demanded, today, Tuesday, the United Nations, to quickly take the necessary measures to hold the Israeli war criminals accountable for their actions against Palestinian journalists.
This came during a message delivered by the Syndicate to a representative of the United Nations, following a stand in front of the headquarters of the Commission in Ramallah, on the occasion of the International Day of Non-Impunity for the Perpetrators of Crimes, in the presence of dozens of journalists.
In a speech delivered during the sit-in, government spokesman Ibrahim Melhem demanded that perpetrators of crimes against journalists be held accountable, as Israel is targeting them in an attempt to prevent them from covering the violations against our people.
For his part, the head of the Journalists Syndicate, Nasser Abu Bakr, said that this year the Syndicate submitted a request to the International Criminal Court, in order to move to hold the Israeli war criminals accountable, as the file was accepted and a number for the case was taken in the court.
He added that the occupation continues to carry out its crimes without punishment, despite the passage of 27 years since the declaration of freedom of the press, and 7 years after Resolution 2222 issued by the United Nations, which stipulates that the perpetrators of crimes will not escape punishment.
He pointed out that since 2013 the Freedom Committee in the Syndicate has annually monitored between 600-800 attacks against journalists by the Israeli occupation authorities, and that violations have escalated following the decision of the Occupation Council of Ministers in 2015 to launch a fierce campaign against the Palestinian media.
Abu Bakr stressed that the policy of silencing the voices pursued by the occupation authorities against journalists aims to prevent the Palestinian message from reaching the world, and to continue to spread messages of lies and fraud.
For his part, the head of the Independent Commission for Human Rights, Ammar Dweik, pointed out that since 2014, 19 journalists have been martyred, and no investigation or accountability has taken place for the killers, indicating that it is a systematic Israeli policy.
General Secretary of the General Union of Palestinian Writers and Writers, Murad Al-Sudani, affirmed that the claim launched by the Syndicate of Journalists confirms the bitter pain and daily suffering that targets the eye of the truth in Palestine, indicating that this demand is a message to all unions and the union, to expose the occupation crimes against our people.
