The opposition camp in Thailand gets the majority of seats in the House of Representatives

The opposition camp in Thailand has won a majority of seats in the House of Representatives, according to official results, but it is likely that the leader of the military junta will remain in power.

The coalition, consisting of seven anti-army parties, won 245 seats, slightly less than half of the 500 seats in the lower house, while Foo Thai won most of the 136 seats.

Although the camp has won most of the seats, it may not be able to form a government. The pro-army side has the support of 250 senators elected by the military council who will vote for the prime minister with the lower house of parliament.

The 250 senators, along with 115 lawmakers elected by the pro-army Balang Prachat party, are likely to confirm that the junta leader, Baryut Chan-o-cha, remains in power as prime minister.
