The European Union Offers 22 Million Euros to Support Social Allocations

The European Union has provided 22 million euros today, Tuesday, to support social allowances for poor families in Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

The Office of the European Union Representative in the West Bank and Gaza stated in a statement, 'The European funding has been directed through the PEGASE mechanism to provide social allowances for 71,162 families below the poverty line, while the Palestinian Authority covers another 37,774 families.'

The Deputy Representative of the European Union, Maria Vlachou, stated, 'The European Union remains committed to supporting the Palestinian social protection system, even in light of the financial crisis facing the Palestinian Authority.'

She added, 'The Cash Transfer Program has faced unprecedented financial obstacles, confirming the need for concerted efforts among partners to ensure the sustainability of the Palestinian social allowances system.'

She continued, 'Social protection is a fundamental right that obliges those in positions of responsibility to respect and protect it collectively, ensuring the access of everyone to essential services.
