The Palestinian Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Authority published on Tuesday details of severe torture endured by the young prisoner Adam Abed Ghaith (14 years old) from Jerusalem during his arrest and interrogation.
The Authority's lawyer, Hiba Igbariya, stated after visiting Ghaith in 'Al-Damon' prison, 'On May 24, 2023, a number of Israeli police (Yasam) and intelligence personnel raided the house of the prisoner. They entered his room while he was sleeping and woke him up. They then asked him to accompany them to the police station for half an hour and arrested him directly.'
In this context, the young prisoner Adam says, 'They forced me to kneel after blindfolding my eyes and binding my hands and feet. After an hour of kneeling on my knees, I couldn't bear the pain. I had been in a car accident a month before my arrest, and my left foot's joint had shattered. I had a plate inserted, and when the pain intensified, I called on someone and asked him to help me stand due to the pain in my foot. He held me by my neck, took me to another room, and started hitting my head against the wall, which was made of gypsum, several painful and forceful strikes. As a result, the wall broke due to the severity of the strikes. Then he held me, lifted me up, and slammed my body onto the ground. He started stomping on me all over my body, especially where the plate was, causing me excruciating pain.'
He added, 'After that, they took me to the interrogation room and interrogated me for about 4 hours. I didn't confess to anything during that time. Then three other people entered and brutally beat me, threatened me with electric shocks, and continued to beat me if I didn't confess to what they wanted.'
After the interrogation ended, the young prisoner was taken to court, and his detention was extended. He couldn't walk due to severe pain, swelling in his foot (where the plate was), and the bruises he sustained during the brutal interrogation.
He remained in 'Moskobiyeh' prison for 23 days, where he was interrogated 11 more times, each time being subjected to beatings and threats. Then he was transferred to 'Al-Damon' prison.
It's worth noting that he has not been sentenced yet, and his trial is scheduled for September 13, 2023. Additionally, his brother is also an inmate in the same prison.
