French media reported today, Wednesday, citing the Public Prosecutor, that a woman in France had died after a man shot her before pouring a flammable liquid on her and setting her on fire.
The woman was in her thirties and the suspect was 41 years old, the woman´s former partner, and had already been convicted of domestic violence.
The accident took place on Tuesday, in the municipality of Merignac, near Bordeaux, and the man was arrested.
"I am horrified by this heinous crime. The fight against domestic violence and the killing of women continues," French Deputy Interior Minister Marlene Schiappa said on Twitter.
On Wednesday, people gathered near the crime scene to commemorate the woman. Women´s rights organizations called for protests.
