Sarhan: 1200 housing units in Gaza require reconstruction

Naji Sarhan, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing in the Gaza Strip, said today, Sunday, that 1,200 housing units need reconstruction, as a result of the 2014 aggression, at a cost of 50 million dollars.

In a radio interview, Sarhan explained that 90% of what was destroyed by the occupation has been overlooked and rebuilt, and this includes 11,000 units and 1,000 other units before the aggression.

And he indicated that the size of the financial need for partial damages amounted to 300 million dollars, and nearly 200 of them were paid, and the remaining 100, indicating that the ministry is facing a problem in light of the donor ceasing support.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing in Gaza said that it had been agreed with UNRWA a few days ago to strive to obtain funds for the total and partial damages to complete the reconstruction process.

"We need 50 million dollars to finish repairing the total damage to homes and residential towers," Sarhan added. "When funds are available, the achievement is more than any donor can imagine."
