Samsung uses AMD chips in its smartphones

South Korean electronics giant Samsung Electronics has signed an agreement with US-based semiconductor company Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) to acquire rights to use graphic design and technology American company in new markets and developing new products in the field of mobile devices.

According to the Bloomberg news agency, the agreement, which is limited to non-chip mobile devices from AMD, will provide the US company with revenue of hundreds of millions of dollars from the sale of licenses to use technology. Under the agreement, Samsung will be able to use the designs of one of the world´s largest PC chip manufacturers, which can improve the performance of Samsung products.

AMD is the world´s second-largest maker of graphics chips that allow PCs to produce semi-real graphics and graphics, while Nvidia Corp. is the world´s largest company.

At the same time, Samsung is currently using chips from the production of Qualcomm USA or ARM of Japan´s Softbank Group in its smartphones, while Apple designs its own graphics chips.

Bloomberg said the agreement with Samsung would allow AMD to enter the smartphone component market without venturing into direct investment in this new sector.
