A senior Russian government official announced that his country intends to allocate $ 700 million to boost efforts to support the Syrian economy.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov said that Russia will invest 500 million dollars over the next four years to modernize the Syrian port of Tartus, which hosts a Russian naval facility.
Russian media quoted him as saying that Russia is planning to build a "new merchant port" on the Mediterranean in the city in western Syria.
He added that Russia will invest 200 million dollars to modernize a Syrian facility for the production of chemical fertilizers.
Today, Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad received Borisov and discussed ways to enhance relations with Russia in all fields.
According to the Syrian presidency, the two sides expressed "their satisfaction with the development of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, which is progressing steadily to reach the level of strategic relations that link Syria and Russia at the military and political levels."
